Before I go into my diatribe I need to tell you something.
I am the worlds LARGEST procrastinator. I could be the poster child/avatar for procrastination under wikipedia. I say this so you know that my words are from experience, not superiority.
Never ask yourself if you ‘Can be a writer’. You either will be or you won’t. The only difference between a published author/writer and you is the writer that gets paid simply kept going.
Do you need talent? Well, yes, some. Call it what you will; talent, inspiration, dogged determination, you will need some proclivity for writing. Be that a deep desire or love or need. And although some seem born with an abundance of talent for one thing or another, this never means you can’t do it. It just means you might have to work a bit harder at it.
Do you read? Do you write? Do you sit down and write, rewrite, and rewrite again until you finally type the words ‘The End’?
Then yes, you will be a writer. You already are a writer.
ps… and don’t give me that bullshit about catching typos everywhere, winning the local spelling bee at 7 or correcting facebook posts for hanging participles. This means you’re an editor.
